Tonight is the opening of Metazoa!  I, along with Zach Kestermann and Ryan Young, will have new works on display at Popp=d ART in Cincinnati.

In honor of tonight, I'm delighted to share the finished painting, Harbinger, which is one of the pieces I completed for the show.  Happy Friday!

Feline Friday: Progress

I'm still hard at work painting the night away in preparation for the upcoming show, Metazoa.  Below is an update of the painting based on the sketch I posted last week.  The background is mostly completed, but the colors on the cat are just blocked in.  I've still got a lot of work to do on this one.  And if you are asking yourself what the heck is going on in this piece, you'll have to wait til the show opening to get an explanation.  Trust me, though, it makes sense.

And don't forget about Craft Menagerie happening tomorrow! Happy Friday!

Mission Completed: Footbridge

I finished up the footbridge painting.  It's currently getting framed and will shortly be on it's happy way to it's recipient.

This piece was a nice break from the usual "cuteness factory" that is my little studio.  I do not do a lot of landscape painting, but from time to time I am asked to and I happily accept the request.  This particular painting is of a small footbridge just off the side of a country road in Warren County Kentucky.  It's actually not that far from where I grew up.  On my last visit home, I got the chance to take a peek at this small wonder and get some good reference for the painting.

In the Studio: Footbridge progress

Recently I was asked to do a smallish painting of a footbridge.  It's not my normal subject matter, but sometimes I do like to work on something a little different.  I spent last night in the studio blocking in the colors.

Feline Friday: Experiments: Round 4

This week I've been getting back into the swing of things and found I had time to revisit my experiments.  I tried my hand at digital painting, which I haven't done in quite some time.  It yielded some good things, I think.  Anyway, I liked the outcome of this one.

To refresh your memory, here's all 4 versions.  Happy Friday!

Mission Completed: A special painting and new prints!

A few months ago I found out that some of my very close friends were expecting their first child.  Congratulations Jon and Melinda!  Over the next few weeks I set out on a mission to create a special piece for their nursery.  The painting was completed well in advance of the baby shower and it took everything I had not to let the secret slip out.  The shower was held a few weeks back and the painting was lovingly received, along with an adorable companion painting that Zach did.  Now that the secret painting is safe in it's new home, I can share the image with you!  Here is "Ollie."

And, because I loved it, here is the little number that Zach came up with for the nursery.

Although the original "Ollie" is spoken for, I ended up loving the piece so much that I went ahead and made prints of it, mainly so I could keep a little piece of it with me, but also to share it with others.  The prints are now available in my shop.

Also newly added to the shop are prints of the painting "Big Rock Kitty Meowtain."

Feline Friday: Big Rock Kitty Meowtain and the Crafty Supermarket!

I put the finishing touches on a new painting today, just in time to debut it at the Crafty Supermarket tomorrow, Saturday, May 5!  I'll be setting up shop there from 11-6.  It will be held at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center, 3711 Clifton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio  45220.  Hope to see you there!  Until then, I give you the newest work, Big Rock Kitty Meowtain!  Yeah, it's totally dorky, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  Happy Friday!

Feline Friday: Redo

I've mentioned before that I don't normally rework a painting, but it keeps happening lately.  Last month I finished a new flying cat painting and it was shown, along with the others in the series, at the Be Happy. Dammit show at the Museum Gallery/Gallery Museum.  While at the opening, I kept eying the new painting.  It was leaving me feeling unsettled.  The cat turned out more frightening than cute.  Now, I don't mind a bit of creepiness in my paintings from time to time, but it went far beyond that.  I don't know how I didn't see it before, or let it out of my hands without fixing it.  Anyway, I picked up the paintings from the gallery recently and FINALLY fixed the problem cat!  Man!  I feel so much better about it now!  Sorry to those of you that saw it prior to the redo.

Happy Friday!

The Beast

Finally, this beast of a painting is done! For some reason it was such a struggle to get it completed. I think my patience is just shot.

Here's a couple of weird angle shots for you guys!
