Monster Monday: Carnival Cotton Candy
I missed last week. Oops! Been kinda busy over here, but I hope to make up for the absence today. I'm going to try and double up on the monsters this Monday! Little Frankie is done and I'll have something new for you later this evening. So, what treat does Frankie love????? Cotton candy! He usually enjoys it when he visits the carnival, but I'd also like to think he snacks on it while catching up on the new season of American Horror Story. Happy Monday!

Monster Monday: The Satyr
Today's Monster is a piece completed for a special project that will be revealed at a later date. It's a little bit of a departure from the norm, but I love the way it turned out. So, here he is. He's such a sleepy satyr, and today I'm such a sleepy girl. Off for more coffee. Happy Monday!

Monster Monday: Mr. Eddie, the Hook Hand Vampire Man!
This one, like many here on Monster Monday, will take a bit of explaining. This little dude came about one evening while hanging out on the porch with a few friends. The scenario is one of those "you had to be there" things, but this a short recap of how the legend of Eddie, the Hook Hand Vampire Man was born.
Let me set the stage. There were 3 main players: Person A, Person B, and Person C. Person A was wearing an Iron Maiden shirt. Person B was trying to figure out which shirt Person A was wearing and asked, "What's on your shirt?" Person C, cough, Shannon, cough, blurted out "HOOK HAND VAMPIRE MAN!" This was a pretty accurate analysis of what was depicted on the shirt, despite the fact that it said "Iron Maiden" atop the picture of "Eddie." Laughter ensued. See, it's definitely one of those "you had to be there" stories. I will leave it at that because the events that followed have sparked much controversy among this particular group of friends.
In order to ensure that this memory will never be forgotten I give you my version of the Hook Hand Vampire Man that adorned the shirt in question. My personal version includes a mock Iron Maiden font. The version that will be available in my store shortly will not have the text included. I figure that the image may be confusing enough without the text. Anyway, here he is! Happy Monday!

Monster Monday: Progress Report
WHOA! Last week kind of got away from me. I'm not quite sure where the time went. That being said, Mr. Chud isn't complete, yet. Below is how he looks so far. Tune in next week to see how the rest of him materializes! Happy Monday.

Monster Monday: C.H.U.D., a sketch
Well, it's getting into that season that I look forward to oh so much, Halloween. That means a return to Monster Mondays! To kick things off I finished a sketch I started a while ago of my take on a C.H.U.D. It's still pretty rough, but it'll find itself in a more complete state over the next few weeks. If you're not familiar, C.H.U.D is a horror movie from the 80's. Happy Monday!

Monster Monday, I mean Wednesday.
Yes, I'm still cranking them out although production has slowed. Monster Monday turned out to be a major hit for me on a personal level and I've decided to continue with it, at least for a bit. My little monsters won't be showing their heads weekly until next year around Halloween time, but occasionally one will come out of winter hibernation to say hello!
I meant to post this new creature on Monday, you know, keeping with the "Monday" in "Monster Monday," but sadly I was far to ill to muster the strength to open the ol' computer. I'm now heading into recovery from whatever sickness to which I've been subjected! Thank goodness! To celebrate feeling somewhat normal again I wanted to go ahead and share this little guy with you instead of waiting til next week. So, here he is, the Dracula Parrot! What? Dracula Parrot? You heard it right. Dracula Parrot. The inspiration for the Dracula Parrot was from a friend's interpretation of the cover artwork on a Pat Smear solo album. I guess it's one of those "you had to be there" kind of things, but how could I not illustrate such a tremendous thing?
Happy Wednesday!

Monster Monday: Werebear, the Origin
Around this time last year my niece asked me why my brother calls me "Ger-Bear." He has called me this since I was little, and so has a great number of family members. Anyway, Zach answered for me and told her that it was my nickname because I am, in fact, a "werebear." Now, the werebear, so the legend goes, gets an uncontrollable hunger for pie once fully transformed. Not just any pie, mind you, but a very special Razzleberry pie! The werebear can be found either deep in the forest gathering berries or in the kitchen baking this magic pie. If a werebear is spotted, don't fret. Just offer it a nice serving of ice cream and, if you're lucky, it might just share a piece of its homemade pie with you, a la mode!

Monster Monday: Dark Night of the Scarecrow
"Dark Night of the Scarecrow," not to be confused with "Night of the Scarecrow," was a made for tv movie from 1981. I watched it countless times as a kid, or so it seems. This is one of the scary movies that has stuck with me through the years. To a small child growing up on a farm, the thought of someone hiding INSIDE a scarecrow or a scarecrow coming to life was terrifying. There were no scarecrows used on the farm on which I lived, but I always wondered if it would magically appear one night in the fields surrounding our house.
A few weeks ago a friend brought this movie over. I was stoked to watch it again! Viewing it as an adult is far less frightening, but it is still a very bizarre and creepy movie. Watching it again also put my mind at ease. I now realize that the scarecrow only attacked those that did him wrong, so I have no worries of being attacked by him. My fear of scarecrows has lightened just a bit.
In honor of this long lost movie from my childhood, I give you my version of "Dark Night of the Scarecrow." He ain't so bad. Happy Monday!
