Moving Forward

The etsy store is down at the moment as I am in the midst of figuring out my next move forward.  The blog is also being worked on and a new site is being conceived.  Until things are settled, some older images on here may not appear correctly.  I am working my way through re-hosting and updating.

I will be at a few local craft shows coming up.  The events page will be updated shortly with more info.  You can also find some of my goodies here in Cincinnati at Robot Inside and Wooden Hill.  If you would like to order something or have questions about commissioned pieces, please contact me at gerileighshields@gmail.com.

Thank you for your patience during this transition period.  In the meantime, here is a new piece that I will be sending to print very soon.  Enjoy!

Play Button

I pressed pause on here a while ago, a long while.  The time has come, though, to press resume.  For starters, I should close up the loose ends I left the site with.  That little witch from so long ago, what was she so excited about?  Much like me, she adores milkshakes.  Strawberry is her flavor of choice.  More updates on what I've been creating coming soon!

Monster Monday: Carnival Cotton Candy

I missed last week.  Oops!  Been kinda busy over here, but I hope to make up for the absence today.  I'm going to try and double up on the monsters this Monday!  Little Frankie is done and I'll have something new for you later this evening.  So, what treat does Frankie love?????  Cotton candy!  He usually enjoys it when he visits the carnival, but I'd also like to think he snacks on it while catching up on the new season of American Horror Story.  Happy Monday!

Feline Friday: Progress

I'm still hard at work painting the night away in preparation for the upcoming show, Metazoa.  Below is an update of the painting based on the sketch I posted last week.  The background is mostly completed, but the colors on the cat are just blocked in.  I've still got a lot of work to do on this one.  And if you are asking yourself what the heck is going on in this piece, you'll have to wait til the show opening to get an explanation.  Trust me, though, it makes sense.

And don't forget about Craft Menagerie happening tomorrow! Happy Friday!

Feline Friday: Mask?

What's going on here?  Just a rough sketch of things to come.

F.Y.I. FRIDAY!

A lot has been in the mix lately and today I'd like to share some of the things I've been up to.

First up, I recently completed work on an amazing project, "The Fox and the Fireflies."  It is a storybook site thought up and put together by my talented friend, Alexis.  She is both the writer of the story and designer of the site.  My input for the project was the illustrations.  This is one of my favorite projects that I have been a part of.  Alexis wrote a beautiful story and made my illustrations come to life!  You can check out the final product at foxandfireflies.com.

Second!  Next weekend is Bockfest here in Cincinnati and there is a wonderful craft event that coincides with the celebration.  Craft Menagerie is in it's 3rd year and I'm proud to be a part it!
I will have a few prints from the Fox and the Fireflies project available at my booth. Stop by Arnold's Bar and Grill on Saturday, March 8, 11-4 to check out the amazing the artists and stay for an amazing burger and a beer!  It's sure to be a grand time!

And, finally, I am currently preparing for a show coming up in April.  "Metazoa" will be a collection of works yours truly, Zach Kestermann and Ryan Young.  The opening reception will be on Friday, April 4 from 6-10pm at Popp=d Art in Cincinnati.  I'm getting excited about the work being done for it.  Mark your calendars and hope to see you there!

Feline Friday: The Saga of Mr. E

It's been quiet on here for a while.  I do apologize, but things have been a little less than crazy around these parts.  For one, I've been under the weather for a few weeks.  But, the thing that really threw a wrench into things was the development of a hematoma on Mr. E's ear.  It developed almost over night.  Thus, he had to surgery to drain the hematoma and to make matters worse, he also had a couple of problem teeth removed at the same time.  On top of everything else, Mr. F didn't recognize Mr. E when he came home from surgery and hissed and attacked him for the first week.  They had to be kept separate.  It hasn't been the best of months for Mr. E, but things are starting to luck up.  His ear is healing nicely and hopefully he gets his stitches out sometime next week and he can finally shed the dreaded cone!  We are trying to make the best of things and enjoy the remainder of the holidays.  I hope you are too.  Happy Holidays and Happy Friday!

Mr. E post surgery, complete with cone and ear cast.

Monster Monday: The Satyr

Today's Monster is a piece completed for a special project that will be revealed at a later date.  It's a little bit of a departure from the norm, but I love the way it turned out.  So, here he is.  He's such a sleepy satyr, and today I'm such a sleepy girl.  Off for more coffee.  Happy Monday!

Monster Monday: Mr. Eddie, the Hook Hand Vampire Man!

This one, like many here on Monster Monday, will take a bit of explaining.  This little dude came about one evening while hanging out on the porch with a few friends.  The scenario is one of those "you had to be there" things, but this a short recap of how the legend of Eddie, the Hook Hand Vampire Man was born.

Let me set the stage.  There were 3 main players: Person A, Person B, and Person C.  Person A was wearing an Iron Maiden shirt.  Person B was trying to figure out which shirt Person A was wearing and asked, "What's on your shirt?"  Person C, cough, Shannon, cough, blurted out "HOOK HAND VAMPIRE MAN!" This was a pretty accurate analysis of what was depicted on the shirt, despite the fact that it said "Iron Maiden" atop the picture of "Eddie."  Laughter ensued.  See, it's definitely one of those "you had to be there" stories.  I will leave it at that because the events that followed have sparked much controversy among this particular group of friends.

In order to ensure that this memory will never be forgotten I give you my version of the Hook Hand Vampire Man that adorned the shirt in question.  My personal version includes a mock Iron Maiden font.  The version that will be available in my store shortly will not have the text included.  I figure that the image may be confusing enough without the text.  Anyway, here he is!  Happy Monday!
